Monday through Friday, our veterinarians prefer to see patients by appointment. However, we accept walk-ins during the week. We call those work-ins, meaning you understand that you may have to wait longer than usual for the clients that have made appointments, but you want to wait anyway until a doctor is caught up to work you in. There is no additional work-in fee for a limited time.
The day to walk-in is Saturday. We call it, “Walk-In Saturdays,” and there is no additional fee associated. We always do our best to accommodate and triage pet emergencies as-needed.
We almost exclusively care for dogs and cats. However, by prior appointment with ample notice, we will also provide care for exotics, including birds, reptiles, small mammals, and marsupials, as well as food animals like sheep and goats. If needed, our veterinarians consult with virtual specialists during physical exams to ensure your animal receives the highest level of care.
You will need to have the following:
- Your completed new patient forms
- Medical records (please have your clinic email them to records@myhorizonvet.com)
- Vaccine records
- List of current medications taking
We are happy to email your pet records to you or to a veterinary facility upon request.
Puppies and kittens need monthly appointments until all the boosters are administered. From that point on, adult pets generally need vet visits once a year. However, senior pets and those with chronic illnesses may require more frequent care. We will provide your pet with necessary vaccinations and check for underlying health issues.
Remember - prevention and early intervention are key to maintaining healthy, vibrant lives.
Vaccinations are just as important to pets as they are to humans. They can prevent infectious diseases that can cause severe illness or even death. Vaccinations help safeguard your pets and significantly extend their lives - and some are required by law.
Aside from your furry friend, pet vaccinations can safeguard your family members. For example, rabies is more than a threat to animals. The viral disease can be transmitted to humans, with a more than 99% fatality rate. It is not worth the risk to your pets or family members to delay vaccinations.
The first rabies shot is good for 365 days. From that point on, rabies vaccinations last for three years provided that you get the booster prior to the 365th day. If you come on day 366, you will be required by law to bring in your pet within another 365 days to receive a rabies booster. We will discuss the best options for your pet.
Why not? Every month is dental month at Horizon. We've built in a 15% discount to our dental cleanings, and if you bring in an estimate from another clinic in our area, we'll give you an EXTRA 10% off in our grand opening special - it won't last forever.
Combatting dental disease is that important because its more than just bad pet breath. If not removed, plaque and tartar buildup on your pet's teeth and gum line can cause tooth decay and gum disease, which can result in pain and even tooth loss. Harmful oral bacteria can also be released into the bloodstream, putting your pet's health at risk. We may recommend dental cleaning under general anesthesia, if needed, to safeguard your pet's oral and overall health.
We are happy to discuss parasite prevention products to keep fleas, ticks, and heartworm at bay. Beware of over-the-counter parasite prevention products, which are often ineffective and can be harmful to your furry friend.
Heartworm disease is transmitted to your pet through mosquito bites. Mosquitoes can make it easily into your home, so even strictly indoor pets require heartworm prevention for their protection.
We will evaluate your pet's unique needs to help you determine the ideal time to spay or neuter your cat or dog. In general, most veterinary professionals recommend spaying or neutering around six months of age.
Microchipping is a simple yet invaluable measure that significantly increases the chances of a happy reunion if your pet ever wanders away. Unlike collars or tags, microchips are permanent and cannot be removed or lost. The process involves implanting a tiny chip under your pet's skin, containing a unique identification number linked to your contact details. This ensures quick and reliable identification, increasing the chances of being reunited with a lost pet.
Common signs of a pet emergency may include the following:
- Difficulty breathing
- Extreme coughing or choking
- Ingestion of toxins or poisonous substances
- Bloating or a swollen or painful abdomen
- Severe diarrhea or vomiting
- Difficulty urinating or defecating
- Seizures or convulsions
- Unconsciousness, weakness, or lethargy
- Inability to stand or walk
- Heavy bleeding that will not stop
Pets are masters at hiding their pain, so if you have any concerns, contact our office to schedule a same-day appointment. If your pet experiences an emergency after office hours, please contact an emergency pet veterinarian for immediate care.
